Character Reflection
It is in human nature to inject his personality into his work. It doesn’t matter what work it is: writing, painting, swimming, speaking, jumping, or building, the human mind always leaves specific characteristic traits projected upon the work it has done – it’s what we call style.
It is much the same with watch-making. For one brand, the creator’s innovative spirit is forever imprinted on the geometrics and functions of the watch, for other, the spirit of precision, for third, it is creativity that is embedded as the core around which its models progress. They are all a reflection of the philosophy of their creators, and that is exactly what is drawing us to them.
For example, a practical man will choose Panerai, just as a sportsman will choose an Omega, and a businessman will choose a Cartier. Everyone can find something appealing in those watches that have withstood the test of time. The appeal may form out of the similarity in the character between the customer and creator of the brand.
A fan of a specific football team, for instance, may support it because the style of that team is similar to his. Then, the next step for him is to buy a ticket, go to the stadium, and enjoy a match of his favorite team. By no means can he afford to buy this team, so he must be content with the restriction of simply going to see his team play once a week.
Having a fake watch resembles a situation like this. When someone cannot afford to buy an original extension to his character, he must be content with finding an alternative cheaper solution to that. Buying a fake watch of your favorite brand is possible and without further financial complications. It’s a way out of the stalemate of expression of one’s soul. After all, there are precise, innovative, practical, and reliable people who are not rich.
